If I was I would love to work for the Border Patrol. There is a lot of back country to patrol. It is the one job that I would try. Probably not great for a family man in some areas. They get to carry guns, go off roading, track and drive some pretty cool stuff. I know it's dangerous but better than a city LEO. |

Whenever I see trailers for the show on TV and I see the SUV's on dirt trails I have the same thought as you! I am sure the drug gangs are nasty but I agree...some pretty nice country to be in and beats the heck out of Newark or some city hellhole. _________________ "A prisoner of war is a man who tries to kill you and fails, and then asks you not to kill him." -Winston Churchill

Gee, I carry a gun and can travel more dirt roads than I have time for. I have the greatest respect for our border patrol, but they have a very serious job to do and for me, life is too short to be that serious about anything.
If I were young and starting out again.... Is there a job where you get paid for kayaking, bike riding, wondering around in the woods and just generally doing whatever you want to? That's my job now and I wouldn't change it for anything. _________________ Swingem |

There is more than one border. There's the northern border that needs patrolled to keep those rascally Canadians from slipping across. They are tightening the northern border. Hard to believe but they are working this area with several officers moving here. Lake Superior is not a border of choice to cross. Just think of patrolling the Boundary Waters in northern Minnesota. |

You mean I'm gonna need to fly to Mexico and sneak across your southern border?
Guess I'll need to know more Spanish than "una cerveza por favore". _________________ Orion

Orion, you need to drop the 'e' off that por favor, Pard.
Oh, it'll get you a beer anywhere in Mexico, no doubt of that.
But folks'll look at you funny.

Quill, the Boundary Waters, inside the protected areas gets very little Border Patrol time. Most of the eyes belong to NFS backcountry rangers, and that is the job I want. _________________ "The shallow-minded modern who has lost his rootage in the land assumes that he has already discovered what is important." | Yeah, I thought the BP would be a fun job too if I was younger. but they have to chase the Mexicans and drug dealers all over the worst country the SW has to offer. I think it would have been alot more fun when Skeeter and Bill Jordan was doing it. It's too damn PC now. |

Ol Mose is exactly right!
I wouldn't want a job where I could easily end up in the federal pen for just doing my damn job.

| You guys are only thinking of the US/Mexican border. The terrorist threat is high coming from Canada. Obviously not from people like Orion, but it is a stopping off point into the US. They intend to secure both and form some northern Shadow Wolf groups. |

Sounds like that would be some good duty working the Canadian border. I've heard that there are a lot of drugs coming down from Canada as well. _________________ DCMG #3
