| A burrow or a mule will protect flocks. They are a terror on predators. I've known them to get right down on top of a dog and chew it. |

Why am I not surprised that Reckless would put a plug in for old goats................................
Judge, I am not remotely experienced with Bouvs,. How would you compare them to Pyrs?
I see this type of dog paired with a good all around hunting dog.
A Griffon, or better yet some type of hound or terrier
Unless of course Reckless has somekinda pointing goat............. |

Well, it is true that I do share some of the attributes of the common barnyard Goat.
But I am not near as sure-footed and nimble.
And I'm not nearly as easily domesticated.
Quill, a burrow is a hole in the ground.
A Burro is a donkey.
In the Mid-East and Asia, it would be called an Ass.
Just thought you might wanna' know.

When we were back on the Iowa farm, we had three goats:
"Buddy" was the Billy Goat, an ugly Nubian, the color of mud.
Nothin' but trouble.
"Patrice" was the Nanny, a nice Alpine goat, trim and handsomely marked in shades of grey.
"Annie" was their little half-breed Kid, but she favored Patrice much more than she did Buddy.
Nobody liked Buddy, not even the other two goats.
Patrice and Annie liked to hang out in the horse barn.
They got along well with our two horses.
I guess you could say they had a stable relationship.

| The only billy I came up against was when I was little. When I was older I would pick up a baseball bat to get it's attention. It was part a herd that my cousin and her husband had. The billy had about as many brains and the personality of it's owner. |

Mose, I don't know enough about the Great Pyrenees to make a comparison. I do know GP owners that truly love the breed.
You might be spot on pairing a Bouvier with an all around hunting dog. But again I have to say the Bouvier simply has no instinct to hunt. _________________ OJC - DCMG #1

I was thinking of the Greater Pyrenees. There's a a goat and small horse herd near us and they have a GP that looks as big as a car. They have about ten little horses, asses and ponies as well as about twenty goats. It looks like a petting zoo with a polar bear. _________________ Chief KW Beagle - Global Warming is a HOAX

When much younger, 10 or 11 yrs old, we lived on a farm and had pigs and sheep. After having problems with dogs getting into the sheep and killing 1 or 2 each week, as well as injuring a sheep dog, and tiring of laying on the roof of a hen house night after night to ambush dogs, we put two large billy goats in with the sheep.
Within a week they had repelled at least one dog attack (subsequent attacks may have been tentative). In fact, the event was witnessed by my mother who thought that one goat had nearly killed a dog when it pinned the canine to the ground against the fence and battered the daylights out of it.
No more attacks. Which was good because we could not keep the goats in the pen, they could jump a 4 ft fence at ease. I think the grass was greener on the other side of the fence. A bigger pen area (1/4 acre would have been ideal) might have kept them happier. _________________ "The shallow-minded modern who has lost his rootage in the land assumes that he has already discovered what is important." In the 60's my Father-in-law had goats. He would play with the billy by jousting. My F-I-L would approach the goat and stomp a couple of times and the goat would walk over to him and rare up on his hind legs. The goat would lunge forward and my F-I-L would Jump and meet the goats head with his two fists. The man would get bounced backwards a couple of feet and the goat would shake his head. They would do this several times. I think the goat weighed about 100 lbs. It was interesting. _________________ Chief KW Beagle - Global Warming is a HOAX

Sounds familiar KW. I would grab them by the horns and try to wrestle them to the ground, sometimes I won, sometimes I didn't.
The goats seemed to enjoy the rough-housing.
40 years later, I was dealing with Hispanic immigrants/illegals keeping goats in their very urban backyards as meat sources. Big cookouts were fed by goat meat. I had fun messing with them about proving the goat was not stolen. I would walk into the yard, throw the goat to the ground and pin it there with a knee right behind the jaw (worked well on drunks too) and announce that the goat had no offical tag or tatoo, and that without one they could be taxed or arrested .........absolute B.S. They were quite amused and sometimes shocked that I had wrestled their goat into submissiom. The goat always dissappeared within 24 hrs. _________________ "The shallow-minded modern who has lost his rootage in the land assumes that he has already discovered what is important." I watched a dog show on TV last night. I took particular interest in the working class. They are all big. Several of them looked like they could pull a nice sized cart. They all look like they can really eat. A dog that big would require as much food as a human. I think I'd rather have a yappy lil watchdog and some goats. _________________ Chief KW Beagle - Global Warming is a HOAX
