Yesterday I finally had time and energy to mount my set of paper wheels and use them. I was impressed, any fool can sharpen a knife to razor sharp in a matter of seconds! It does help if you already know how to use a bench grinder. GW thanks for telling us all about paper sharpening wheels.

My 9 year old son has been pestering me for a way to earn $ for at least the past year. I had him watch me sharpen 7 knives while I explained the process and then we did the 8th together. I would guess that if we do another 10 together he will be good to go. I had him read the instruction booklet today. I made an agreement with him that if he learns to sharpen knives I will let him promote knife sharpening. We are going to charge $4/knife. He will keep $2 for himself the other $2 goes to pay for the equipment. When he pays me the $100 I have invested in the equipment it is his and he keeps all the $. I will insist that he set $ aside to buy replacement materials so he can stay in business.

I am tickled that I can set my son up with something he can do and will earn good $. I am pretty proud of him that he is tired of having his Dad buy his clothes and wants to start earning his own way. It is kind of neat to watch the kids grow and get more and more independent. Of course I plan on continuing to buy what he needs for him, and will insist that he save a portion of his $ for future expenses. But at the same time I will let him help pay his way because he wants to and it will be good for him. I was pretty proud of him when we went out to eat a month ago and he insisted that he was going to use some of his Christmas $ to help with the tip. No way was I going to deny him the pleasure and honor of taking a measure of responsibility for himself. I'm proud of my young man.
