I'm headed up to the border to attempt to get my Duece and a half all terrain RV across the border.

The RV tour guys tell me it will either be real easy or a major pain, probably the latter. I'm taking the family because that usually seems to make the customs agents go easy on a fellow.

All going well. Last night Lucy, our 4 month old puppy, learned to climb ladders!

Last night at about 9:30 we arrived home. We were able to cross the border with out incident on Saturday evening. We were given a 10 year permit for our all wheel drive motorhome that we built on a duece and a half truck. As I was leaving the office with my permit in hand I overheard on official say to another "I told them NOT to give him a permit." In the end they decided it wasn't worth trying to undo and let us proceed!

About 75 miles into the trip I discovered that the front end alignment was out of whack and one tire was wearing rapidly... We burned a couple thousand miles worth of rubber off that tire rather prematurely. We camped at a gas station and in the morning I did an improvised alignment job on the side of the street. I ended up having to borrow a 36" pipe wrench to complete the job. This truck really turns heads and opens doors, people love it... I'm half worried I'll cause a wreck, yesterday I saw a young man turn completely around and look 180 degrees from where he was driving as he went through the intersection I was waiting at!

It was a relief to get home safely and the only bribe I had to pay was a little less than $5 to a police officer who pulled me over simply to collect some money. He didn't even make a pretense of having a cause to stop me.

I am convinced that prayer smooths border crossings. Getting permits for campers built on heavy trucks are supposedly very difficult to get and we simply roared through the checkpoints. The soldiers were more interested in talking about the truck than in inspecting it.

Better carry at least two spare tires on that rig.
